Scientific Culture Series launched in Beijing

  The Launching Ceremony of Scientific Culture Series was held jointly by Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press and China Research Institution for Science Popularization on Feb. 8th, 2017 at China Hall of Science and Technology.
    
  The attending guests included Wang Chunfa, Executive Secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology; Hao Zhensheng, Chairman of China Redactological Society; Wang Ting, Vice Director of Propaganda Department of the China Association for Science and Technology; Luo Hui, President of National Academy of Innovation Strategy; Wang Kangyou, Director of China Research Institution for Science Popularization; Yan Shi, Vice Director of China Research Institution for Science Popularization; Zheng Yihui, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press; Yuan Jiangyang, Hao Liuxiang, Li Zhengfeng and other experts and scholars in the field of scientific culture.
    
  Scientific Culture Series has 11 titles, which are all licensed by the first-class international publishing houses such as Oxford University Press, University of Chicago Press, Yale University Press. The series probes into many interesting topics including the development of scientific culture, the role of scientific culture in Industrial Revolution, the shaping of scientific culture dissemination and the new culture, from the perspectives of history, sociology, communication and metrology etc. In China, it is the first translated series systematically introducing the achievements of scientific culture studies in western countries.

  As Wang Chunfa, Executive Secretary of the China Association for Science and Technology pointed out, the Scientific Culture Series provides richful materials for researchers in scientific culture and will help build up cultural confidence.


  


  Hao Zhensheng, Chairman of China Redactological Society mentioned that the publication of Scientific Culture Series serves national cultural strategy and it will deeply affect the society with the benefit of scientific popularization.

      Luo Hui, President of National Academy of Innovation Strategy indicated that Scientific Culture Series is meaningful for both scientific culture studies and technology development.


  
  Wang Kangyou, Director of China Research Institution for Science Popularization said that it is significant for Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press and China Research Institution for Science Popularization to organize the translation project.
 

   
  Wang Ting, Vice Director of Propaganda Department of the China Association for Science and Technology noted that the series provides general authors with an approachable way to learn and think about the history of science and technology.


  
  Zheng Yihui, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press emphasized that the series is a must-read for relevant institutions as well as researchers, it will bring the sprite of science and technology into the community and campus. 


       The launch ceremony was hosted by Liu Peiying, Chief Editor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press. Series translators including Wang Hongwei, Wang Lihui, Zhu Hongqi, Wang Dapeng, Li Honglin, Dong Lili etc also attended the ceremony. The event was covered by mainstream media such as the Xinhua News Agency, China News Agency, People’s Daily, Guang Ming Daily and so on.
