On May 28th, 2015, the launch ceremony of A Collection of Court Exhibits of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, jointly published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press and National Library of China, was held in the Guest of Honor China Pavilion during 2015 BookExpo America.

Mr Wu Changzhi, vice minister of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of China, mentioned at the ceremony that China and the US, both victorious nations during the World War II and participators in Tokyo Trial, have played a key role in achieving the victory of the World War II and constructing the post-war world order. The launching ceremony of A Collection of Court Exhibits of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East at BookExpo America is reckoned as a joint action carried out by specialists in Sino-American academia and publishing industry to maintain the outcomes of World War II and the post-war international order.

Guests attended the ceremony includes Mr Wu Shangzhi, vice minister of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of China; Mr Xu Jiong, director-general of Shanghai Press and Publication Bureau; Mr Han Jianmin, president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press; Prof Xiang Longwan, the son of Chinese prosecutor on the Tokyo Trial Xiang Zhejun; Prof Cheng Zhaoqi, director of the Tokyo Trial Research Center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and many researchers from America. Cao Kefan, a famous TV anchor from Shanghai Media Group, moderated the ceremony. Many American university professors and specialist recommend the book.

A Collection of Court Exhibits of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, consisting of more than 30,000 pages, is a publishing project preferentially supported by China’s “National Publishing Fund”. The book was jointly published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press and National Library of China in 2015. This project aims to give a full representation of a total of 3915 pieces of evidentiary materials, which were recognized by the court during the Tokyo Trial. The book is a key literature of the Tokyo Trial, and these materials intensively demonstrate the fact that Japan has committed a series of war crimes including the September 18th Incident, the Lugouqiao Incident, as well as the Nanjing Massacre. Moreover, these materials serve as the most revealing and powerful refutation to Japanese Right-Wing Forces’ denial on its wartime crimes. Experts at the Tokyo Trial Research Center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University reorganize and arrange the whole manuscript, and at the same time compile the guidance, contents and index the microfilms about Tokyo Trial’s full evidence collected from overseas based on the microfilms about Tokyo Trial’s full evidence collected from overseas.

Some American researchers said that comparing with the Holocaust, there were less international attentions and research drawn to the Nanjing Massacre and other atrocities in Asian countries that are done by the Japanese during the World War II. The publication A Collection of Court Exhibits of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East will effectively advance the systematic compilation and presentation of Tokyo Trial’s key information as well as international research on Nanjing Massacre and Tokyo Trial.

Mr Han Jianmin, president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press, noted that as there is still plenty of academic research to be done on the Tokyo Trial, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press is willing to take the initiative to undertake the historical mission and social responsibility. The compilation and publication of A Collection of Court Exhibits of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East and other Tokyo Trial series shows strong determination in spreading China’s voice to the world.
